Snow, Birds, Grimm....

Haven't blogged in a while, mainly because nothing exciting has happened and also because I've been engrossed in my new book The Brothers Grimm Tales.....

I've wanted this book for so long, and when I saw this beautiful purple hardback version of it I knew I just had to buy it. I've been fully engrossed in this book, it's great to read the original folklore stories instead of the PG rated or Disney version ones. It also has the most beautiful illustrations...

I also received last week my demonology book and Greek myths book I ordered of Amazon, both subjects really interest me, I bought the Greek book because I really would love to know more of the facts about Greek mythology, and this book has it all even time lines and family trees. I can't wait to get started on it.

While reading the Grimm fairy tales in my room one afternoon I heard a lot of seagulls in a flutter and looked out to see what they were doing. The next door neighbour had put out some bread for the birds and the seagulls came in large numbers. It felt like a scene from the birds, I took a few pics of them...

Also took a couple of pics of the snow we've had this week which is thankfully all gone now..

I appreciate the snow until it turns to ice then I can't wait for it to be gone. It was pretty while it lasted.

So yesterday I went into Doncaster town centre with Josh and the rents, finally got round to spending Joshes Christmas money, bought some brand new clothes, a few books and some toys from the Disney store. He was quite pleased to be spending money, unfortunately he wanted everything in the Disney store. After we got home I decided to have a good sort out of Joshes clothes and put away his old clothes that didn't really fit anymore, he had quite a few, I ended up filling a huge bag to pass on.

Spurned on by cleaning yesterday, today I had a huge sort out of my room and filled a huge bag of unwanted clothes and a black bag of rubbish I didn't want anymore. I feel quite cleansed now. I also got rid of about 12 pairs of shoes. I didn't actually realise how many pairs of shoes I own until I got them all out.

This is just half of my collection I found, I've thrown 12 pairs out at this point as well, I don't even know where all these shoes came from.

Snow & Fog...

Took a couple pics of the fog today on my way up to school to pick Josh up...

You can just guarantee that the snow on the path is turning to ice tomorrow and I won't be stable at all.

Snow & Cakes...

Haven't blogged much because there hasn't been much going on. It started snowing yesterday, now it's settled to about 4 inches. Yesterday while it was snowing I was in the kitchen baking my parents late anniversary cake. Then at night me and Gareth went for a catch up to Gemma's, a 20 minute journey took us nearly 45 minutes because of the snow.

I took a pic on Friday of the frost in the graveyard....

To the left of the picture, there seems to be a strange circle of light, hmmm.

Here is a picture of the cake I made for my mum, I wasn't able to make it last week because I was ill, so I took the opportunity of a free Saturday to bake it...

I thought it turned out quite well for a first time at making characters.

Took a few pics of the snow as well...

Heres a little video of the jam session we had at Gemmas last night...

Rockabilly....

I've really got back into rockabilly style clothing, I was into it a short while ago but didn't have any money to really do anything about it, but with my parents anniversary party on it's way I decided to buy a nice new dress. So I went with this...

A nice simple rockabilly style black and red polka dot dress, which fit me lovely, I personally think the style just suits me well and I love this type of dress, just right for me. I put it with a long sleeved bolero and red high heeled shoes, plus some black jewellery to finish off. If I can find a pic of me in it, I'll put it up. This particular dress is from Hell Bunny a company I'm quite fond of and feel I could buy the whole range. So check them out on Amazon and Attitude Clothing.

Once Upon A Time....

No I'm not going to start writing a fairytale story as my blog title perceives, it's actually a new TV show I've just started watching.

It's about the most popular fairytale characters and how they are trapped in the modern world by the evil queen, who in the modern world is the town mayor. On the pilot episode it shows how the queen doesn't get what she wants so she curses them to continue living the same modern lives in Storybrooke, Maine until it can be broken by Snow White's daughter Emma, but first she must be convinced that this is all real by her son Henry. There is obviously more to it than that, and I am hooked on it. Pretty much anything to do with fairy tales and the supernatural though and I am there.

Explanation Illness....

I haven't blogged in a week because I've been ill and bed bound.

First got a stomach pain on Sunday afternoon which turned into agonising pain which I couldn't stand so had to be taken to the hospital. I was diagnosed with gastritis and prescribed some pain killers but it was mainly a case of I'd just have to grit through it until it passes, and that is generally what I've been doing for a week. First couple of days I was still laying down because I couldn't stand or walk, on Thursday I could move a bit more but I still couldn't stand or straighten my body. On Friday I was more fluid in movement so I helped my mother a little with her buffet food for my parents anniversary party that night.

I got dressed okay and went with them to the party to celebrate 25 years of them being married. It was a good party with friends and family but I think I'd done too much in the day and sat down most of the evening out of exhaustion.

On Saturday I felt I'd done too much, my joints were aching, my back was on fire, I basically sat in whatever comfort I could get and watched TV.
I've discovered a new TV show called Grimm which entertained me all of Saturday since I watched all 9 episodes that were on the Internet. I think it's quite good, it's not the best produced or scripted but I enjoy it, it's not bad but it's not good, that's the only way I can describe it. The only reason I started watching it is because it is based on the Grimm fairy tales which I love and it has one of my favourite actors in. Silas Weir Mitchell I personally feel he is under appreciated in his acting roles, he seems to play kind of the same character but he plays it well. The usual sidekick, the crazy one, the comedy one. I think hes a great as a supporting role in this TV show and he was so funny in Prison Break until he died in it which was quite upsetting because he was my favourite character. In Grimm he plays a big bad wolf gone good and a funny one at that. Even though this series is not 100% up their with my favourites I shall still be watching it to the end.

Today my brother Darren and his girlfriend Suzanne came up to see my parents since they missed the anniversary party. It was great to see them both and Darren got rather excited about an old Amstrad that still works, took it home and everything, he was like a small child in a toy store. No doubt he'll be playing on it tonight.

Can't make up for the missed week of pictures so I'll just start again, here's a pic of my brother with the Amstrad, him playing on it...

Party....

Yesterday was amazing. Finished off the cakes for Rachel and Bev and got them delivered, here are a couple of pics...

I think they turned out well, and they seemed to enjoy them. Which I am super please about.
After I dropped off the cake I went back home to get ready for the party, dress code old people or geeks, I chose geeks because I love the glasses. Heres a pic of me all ready to party...

It was a brilliant party filled with music and booze and a great atmosphere for laughter and meeting new people. Just had an amzing time last night and early hours of this morning!

Cake, Cake and More Cake....

Today I spent the entire day baking cakes, 3 to be exact for 2 friends 21st's tomorrow. It took nearly all day and I took over the entire kitchen, including the fridge....

I think they turned out very nice, I'll post a pic of the finished product tomorrow after the party. I just need to deliver them and set them up. I hope they like them and they taste good. Time for me to go to bed because I am knackered from being on my feet all day.

Old Sophie Kinsella...

Yesterdays pic of the day is the book I finished.....

It's an earlier work of Sophie Kinsella a chick lit author whom I enjoy. It's from about ten years ago when she used to write under her real name of Madeleine Wickham. The book was okay, not as good as her more recent work. It had a good storyline but I felt it wasn't very exciting. I give it an 6/10.

Disney...

Yesterdays pic is ........

So true, it amused me, I'm Disney all the way.

Frost...

Today's pic of the day is of the temperature this morning and the frost on the floor in the back garden...

Mainly spent the day doing geography quizzes with my mother.

Josh the Boxer.....

Yesterdays pic of the day was Josh wrapped up in my jacket which him makes him look like a boxer to me...

Little Earth....

Today while driving down the motorway to go shopping I snapped these two pictures, one of the rising sun on the left and one of the moon on the right.......

Thought it was amazing really that to left of me the sun was just rising but further east around the earth people in foreign countries were watching the same sun but it was setting for them and the same moon was about to rise. It's weird to think that some days, its strange to think how small the earth is compared to the rest of the universe that I'm watching this moon when America, that is 10 hours away can see the exact same moon. Sometimes I can't get my head around it, sometimes you want to think it's not true, that were moving right now, that there is such a thing as gravity keeping us down and such a thing as air we breathe that doesn't exist on other planets. That there are other planets in general really. Strange, we so small in comparison.

New Read & Geeks...

Today I started and finished reading a Milly Johnson novel I bought recently, I love her books, they're always so witty and funny with of course a happy ending. The best part about her books are that she is from Barnsley so therefore writes in a Yorkshire accent which is brilliant to me - a Yorkshire woman.
The book is called The Birds and the Bees....

At the start of the book the author give a description of what the Scottish dance 'the birds and bees' is, an energetic country jig of changing partners. The story follows Stevie Honeywell and her fiancé Matthew, his work colleague Jo and her partner the burly Scotsman Adam MacLean (which for this she writes in a Scottish accent, brilliant). The simple gist of the book is Matt falls for Jo leaving Stevie and Adam heartbroken. Stevie and Adam take an instant disliking to each but come together to try to win their partners back. It's a lovely book filled with warmth and humour and it was a very good read, I would probably give it an 8/10.

Also my costume came today for my friends 21st birthday next week, I'm going as a geek, I tried it all on and I think I fit the description quite well. Actually been wearing the glasses all day because they just seem to suit me.

Well I should really get an early night as I have Josh tonight and will be getting up early in the morning no doubt.

All Full Up...

Josh went back to school today, he seems fine now, and over his illness.

I went out shopping with Gareth and his mum and came back with 5 books. I really have no space for them at all, I really need to get some fast reading done.
Later in the day me and Gareth went out for a meal at The Swan Hotel in Aberford, Leeds. It's the best pub to eat in, you really get your value for money, the food is gorgeously homemade and huge portions, you go away feeling satisfied and full.

If your in the area or looking for a place to eat not too far I definitely recommend this place. For starter I had creamy garlic mushrooms, and for main I had this....

Lamb cutlets, couldn't quite finish it all but knew I had some room left for the lemon meringue pie I ordered to go. Had a great day and night.

Poorly Child...

Haven't been able to post the last couple of days because Josh has been really poorly with an ear infection. Had him off school and up and down to the doctors these past three days. He's hardly slept but thankfully he's getting better now and will probably be going back to school tomorrow.

On Monday I finished the second book in the Lords of Deliverance series, it was really good like all her books but there was a few plot lines that I personally thought good of been better. One of the side stories in this book was her brother Thanatos' seal couldn't be broken if he stayed a virgin, so he sustained from sex for 5 thousand years for a women to come in the book and seduce him, but in the end the prophecy changed and now it's the baby he carries who will break the seal. That to me is a little bit sloppy writing, and unrealistic, okay it's all unrealistic because it supernatural but I feel there could of been a better storyline to that.
Another of the plot was Limos was betrothed to Satan in a contract she signed 5 thousand years ago, in the contract it said she must stay an innocent so she was made to be prisoned in a chastity belt but realised she could break it if she married someone else because the contract only stated that she must have a 'husband' to break the belt. So of course she married her love Arik and it broke and the contract to Satan was broken. How in 5 thousand years did she not see the word 'husband' and not the specifically named Satan?
It's only little things but for some reason they still niggled at me.Anyway I still can't wait for the next one to be released in June. This book is about Thanatos and the future baby of his...

Today I got some baking stuff from Amazon because I will be baking my friends 21st cake. I had to buy a bigger tin....

Cake wait to give it a test run this weekend, that sounds a bit sad but it makes me happy to bake so I don't care. Also I may have missed three days but I still got my pictures in.

Funny.....

Completely forgot to post yesterday, I only remembered when I turned my laptop off and headed upstairs to write in my 5 year diary, but by then I was comfy I wasn't coming back down. So today I'll just share with you a funny picture from one of my favourite websites that amuse me.....

Yes I'm glad to have English as my first language because I think I would of been confused trying to learn it.
The website where this little picture came from is www.tasteofawesome.com  go to it, it's full of funny little pictures like this.

Nothing much happened yesterday, a very lazy Sunday of reading and watching the internet. I got Josh back early yesterdaybecause he wasn't feeling very well so he went to bed early but was up most of he night with ear ache.

Saturday 7 January 2012

Start Reading....

I got up early this morning to go shopping with the rents to help buy supplies for my parents wedding anniversary later this month, so I'm quite tired now but we got a lot of things bought including some more books for me. I received so many books and Christmas and I've bought a lot more that I've ran out of room on my shelf........

This one shelf in the picture is where I keep all my books that I need to read, then they make there way further up the bookshelf, but now I've got that many I've ran out of space and yes there are books behind the first row. I really need to get reading. I've just started the second book in the Lords of Deliverance series, this one is about the female Horseman Simos. So far it's really hard to put down, I'm am clearly loving it. I started this afternoon and I'm about half way through, I will most likely have it finished by tomorrow.

Also I've started watching a new TV show called 'New Girl', it stars Zooey Deschanel as a recently heartbroken quirky woman looking for a new place to live and finds herself sharing an apartment with three guys. It's very high on the comedy and I'm really enjoying it so far, hopefully they'll keep it going.

Friday 6 January 2012

The Mighty Boosh....

The Pic of the day today is The Mighty Boosh....

I've only just recently gotten into this show but I am loving it so far. I'm only on season 1 and can't stop watching, it's so surreal and far fetched that it works. The plot, the comedy all rolls into something hilarious. Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding are amazing hilarious writers and comedic actors.

New Books....

I love getting parcels in the post, call me sad but it cheers me up. It gets me extra excited when I don't know what the parcels are, which happened this morning. I'd completely forgot I'd ordered something from Amazon, I'd ordered the Maggie Striefvater box set, which I'd been wanting for a while. I saw it with 76% so of course I just had to buy it. They're are my normal supernatural books and can't wait to add them to my pile to read, I might bump them up the queue a bit. Here is a pick of the gorgeous box set they came (which was the reason I bought them now).....

Back To School...

Okay so I lied I didn't finish the book last night, I got distracted by reruns of Never Mind The Buzzcocks but I did finish it this afternoon. And that is the pic of the day.......

It's the first in this series but not the first Larissa Ione book I've read, earlier last year I read the Daemonica series she wrote, which were amazingly hard to put down. Her books just fascinate and addict you, I love them. This one was no different. They are full of the supernatural and they have a lovely amount of blood and gore in them with an added amount of naughtiness. This book follows the story of The Horsemen, and centres on the horseman Ares in this book, the next book we read about his sister Simos. It's his struggle to keep himself from turning evil and starting Armageddon in the world, on the way of course he fall's in love. Great read.

Josh went back to school today, he went in fine, no moans or quarrels, nothing. I was quite happy with that. When he came out he said he was exhausted and even took himself to bed early because he was so worn out.

I also catched up on the last 3 episodes of American Horror Story, great ending, it left me wanting more. Apparently there is another season but with a different cast and different house. Which in some way I understand because they've kind of exhaust the characters that are in the house now we know every ones back story but in another way I really liked them character and don't really want to leave them. I'm just hoping the second season will be good, they never are.

Now I'm going to watch some more re runs of Never Mind The Buzzcocks, I love Noel Fielding he's so funny!

Tuesday 3 January 2012

Book Reading...

The pic of the day is of Josh taking all the room up on the sofa to get comfy and play on his ipod.....

Today has been a very slow day of preparing for Josh going back to school and reading my new book that I received off Gemma for Christmas. It's the first in the series of the Lords of Deliverance Novels and I'm loving it, a little bit of supernatural that I can get lost in. I do generally get lost in them as well, I just started this morning and I'm already 3/4 of the way through. No doubt that I may finish it tonight.
I've just catched up on some American Horror Story episodes, I am loving this series, its so spine tingling and strange I really can't stop watching it. From trying to figure out who's dead to wondering whats going to come out of the shadows next I am addicted. I'm going to miss it when it finishes in about 3 more episodes.

All is back to normal tomorrow for Josh, he is back to school. I will update how it went tomorrow...

Monday 2 January 2012

End Of Christmas....

Today was dismantling the tree day, all the decoration's were packed away in there boxes and placed back up in the loft ready for next Christmas. The tree was taken down and the living room was put back to normal. A little sad but I'm more relieved since I don't like them being up anyway, I feel they just clutter the place (which they do every year). So I'm very happy now that they've hidden themselves back upstairs, I feel I can breathe a little more now the clutter has disappeared.

Yesterday I feel I rushed the New Year blog's because I was still tired. What I should really write down is resolutions or goals for the year.
My main goal is to get a job, be it something I like doing or something that pays the bills, I don't care.
My other main goal is to save enough money for a bond and first months rent so I can move me and Josh into our own place somewhere. I love living with my parents because it's easy and they've been so good for letting me and Josh move back in when I couldn't afford to live in the old house, but once you've moved out of the parents to then move back in is unbelievably hard, your so used to your own space and own rules that you forget under your parents roof you have to live by theirs. So moving out when money is saved is a must.
They are my main goals for this year but I also would like to have a holiday if cheap for me and Josh to go on, just somewhere to get away for me and him, hopefully I can afford somewhere even if just for a weekend.
I guess all the other goals are self explanatory, I want health and happiness for all of those around me and all of those I love. For all their goals to be met as well as mine. Here's hoping for 2012 to be a great year!

The pic of the day is the first input into the diary Gemma got me for Christmas, the start of a brand new year....

Sunday 1 January 2012

A New Year....

So woke this morning from getting only about an hours sleep last night, me and Gemma arose and started cleaning up for something to do. waited for the rest of the house to arise and made our way home. I had something to eat and went straight back to bed, I slept for about 5 hours, got up for Joshes arrival, put him to bed then had something to eat.

It's been a very lazy day of recovering of a late night of no sleep so no picture, I'll just share another one of last night instead, a pic of a little later that night when the dancing began....

New Years Eve....

So yesterday was New Years Eve and I didn't blog because I went out to a friends party. I had a lovely, fun time, just getting drunk and have a get together and also dancing, you got to love a little bit of dancing. It was great to see friends from Leeds again and meeting new people and hanging around with the regular gang. Here is a pic from last night....

I did well with my hair last night, it took me about 2 hours to style but it held strong, I did put nearly a whole can of hairspray on though, which was not helpful when trying to brush it out this morning - ow. I also like my eye make-up, I made them look a little smokey, it came out well I think. This picture was taken at the start of the night, that's why me and Gareth still look all together. We hadn't even started singing and dancing at that point.

Eventually we all settled down at about half past 2, The Youngs upstairs and me and Gemma on the sofa's. It was a great night, one to be added to my memories!
